KUMIWAZA II

(required for 1° DAN)

1 Nage in left hanmi, jo vertical holding with left hand. Uke with bokken in chudan gets closer to Nage. Nage puts the end of the jo in his right hand and attacks Uke’s hands with a double tsuki. Uke steps back lifting his bokken in jodan (HIT). Nage returns in chudan.
1+ Nage does tsuki. Uke lifts bokken in jodan, stepping back and counterattacking immediately with a shomenuchi while Nage returns in chudan.
2 Nage attacks with tsuki, and while Uke does shomenuchi, Nage pulls the jo over his head attacking Uke’s left side of the head with a tsuki. Nage ends in jodan (zujō).
2+ Nage attacks with tsuki the hands of Uke, Uke steps back and returns with shomenuchi, while Nage returns in jodan.
3 Uke attacks with shomenuchi. Nage counterattacks with yokomenuchi.
4 Uke attacks with shomenuchi. Nage parries with the part of the jo between the two hands and continues with gyaku yokomenuchi, stepping with the left foot forward.
3+ Nage attacks with yokomenuchi, Uke steps back.
4+ Nage continues with gyaku yokomenuchi, Uke steps back.
5 Nage does tsuki to his back, Uke grabs the jo and is thrown down.
5+ Nage does tsuki to his back, Uke steps back.
6 Nage changes hands and does tsuki, Uke steps back. Nage returns in jodan.
7 Nage does yokomenuchi, Uke steps back.
8 Nage does gyaku yokomenuchi, Uke steps back.
9 Uke attacks on the other side from behind with shomenuchi. Nage strikes on the bokken (oroshi barai)
10 Nage does tsuki (nodo tsuki) with right foot forward. Uke steps back.
11 Nage does gyaku yokomen with left foot forward. Uke steps back.
12 Nage changes hands and does tsuki. Uke grabs the jo and hits Nage. (HIT)
12+ Nage does tsuki and returns in jodan.
13 Uke continues attacking, Nage parries with shomenuchi and does a tsuki to the back. Uke does shomenuchi (HIT).
14 Uke attacks with shomenuchi, Nage sweeps the jo upwards (harai age).
15 Nage does jodan tsuki (HIT).
14+ Uke attacks with shomenuchi, Nage sweeps the jo upwards (harai age). Uke steps back.
15+ Nage does jodan tsuki. Uke steps back.
16 Nages does tsuki. Uke grabs the jo and hits Nage. (HIT)
16+ Nages does tsuki, Uke cannot grab the jo.
17 Nage steps back, parrying forward and steps back putting one knee down and thrusting to the back. Uke continues with shomenuchi (HIT).
18 Uke attacks with shomenuchi. Nage stands up sweeping Uke’s legs away.
19 Uke falls down, Nage does tsuki (HIT).
18+ Uke attacks with shomenuchi. Nage sweeps the jo forward. Uke steps back.
19+ Nage does tsuki (kahō tsuki). Uke steps back.
20 Nage changes hands and does tsuki. Uke steps back. Uke does shomenuchi (HIT).
20+ Nage does tsuki. Uke steps back. Nage steps far back.
21 Uke comes with shomenuchi. Nage sweeps the jo upwards without stepping forward.
22 Nage jumps to right foot forward, changes hand and does tsuki on Uke’s left side. Uke steps a little back.
