Plan d’Aups - Sainte Baume, April 2013

Seminar with Yoshigasaki Sensei

Stage with Doshu Yoshigasaki

A brief report on the seminar with Yoshigasaki Sensei in Plan d'Aups.
Saturday was rainy. Sunday, however, was beautiful, and we were able to enjoy the sunshine. We had the pleasure of welcoming foreign friends (Bernhard from Tübingen (D), Yvette and Govert from Balerna (CH)) and a friend from Belfort (FR), Jean-Paul. I won't forget Yves!
We were 21 aikidoka on the tatami. This seminar was very interesting, among other things, for the practice of bokkendori.

Explanations

Since I don't have much time, I'll let Jean-Paul (Belfort) speak.
"... Sensei Yoshigasaki's seminar reflects the principles of this year's seminars, but I find some clearer explanations that serve as a guide for my personal work. Using examples from bokkendori, we understand that a baby pulls instinctively and that as adults we push for defensive reasons. Pushing is less effective and does not correspond to the spirit of ki. Ki is not energy, but what we perceive and anticipate. We must accept everything the universe gives us like a baby. We gain technique and speed.
In short, you know our master; we are entitled to very thorough explanations, which sometimes amaze me, given the gap between the Western and Japanese perspectives. Sensei is a traveler who reveals our mistakes to us. The whole thing is, of course, embellished with technical details...
...and finally, I left Plan d'Aups happy and satisfied."
I look forward to seeing you again on the tatami for further training sessions.
