The following list provides an overview of the holding techniques (katame waza) that appear in the program of Ki Aikido. It may serve as an aid in preparing lessons.
Tohei Sensei has eliminated a number of techniques as well as many types of attacks that he felt were too contrived.
The terms ikkyō to gokyō were coined by Kisshomaru Ueshiba, based on a distantly similar system in Daito-ryu. The original designations and the explanation by Yoshigasaki Sensei are given with the illustrations. It should be noted that ude = arm in Japanese tends to refer only to the forearm.
Ikkyō

Old name: ude osae = push arm down.
Yoshigasaki: Ikkyo = Controlling uke's elbow to control his shoulder.
