was the motto of Takeda Shingen (1521 - 1573), a Japanese regional prince during the time of the warring empires. It is a quote from the book "The Art of War" by Sunzi (China, 544 a.C - 496 a.C) abbreviated to four characters.
The story of Takeda Shingen is told in the film "Kagemusha (1980)" by Akira Kurosawa.
